Judges comment: There is a lovely light in this piece, and that is something that photographers cannot always rely on. The build-up of spray to the right wraps itself around the surfer to perfectly frame him and his shadow before dissolving into the foaming wash to the left. The composition is very good, as it both allows space for the action, and scale to the enormity of the sea.
